
Contract: 0.6fte - 1fte position for 4 years depending on the proposed research trajectory of the selected candidate.

Public Space / Social Practice: Socio-political, ethical, and cultural dimensions of public art and design participatory practices, urban interventions, or the politics of representation in public domains.
Materiality: Ecologies of resources/materials including their social/political/ecological entanglements, material-based pedagogies and research methodologies, critical making, collective regenerative practices, material driven inquiry and speculative material futures.
Algorithmic Cultures / AI: Impact of computational systems on cultural, social, and artistic practices, AI ethics, digital aesthetics, speculative futures, or human-computer interaction in the arts and/or design.
Educational background: A Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Established practice: A minimum of five years of practice, demonstrated through a robust portfolio that also reflects relevant research experience or a research component within the candidate’s practice.
Interdisciplinary collaboration: Evidence of experience in working across disciplines and in collaboration with partners.
Legal residency: Applicants must legally reside in The Netherlands.
Personal Statement (max 500 words): A brief description of your practice and professional experience.
Motivation (max 500 words): Short description of the research you would like to undertake during the CrD/PD trajectory. State the essence of your project in a way that is accessible for both peers and non-peers. Articulate how the project aligns with the research theme including its relevance and contribution.
Curriculum Vitae: Including details of exhibitions, publications, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Note: The expressions of interest will be reviewed by an internal committee, which will select 2-3 applicants to progress to Stage 2.

Research proposal (max. 1500 words, may include visual material) Describe the practice-based problem you aim to address in relationship with one of the thematic areas. Clearly formulate the objective of your research and state the guiding research question(s) that will shape your trajectory. Optional: Applicants may include a proposed partnership with institutions, organizations, or collaborators. Describe how the partnership aligns with the research objectives, enhances interdisciplinary engagement, and contributes to the project’s impact. The applicant may name two external supervisors. Include: List key sources (academic and/or practice-based).
Methodological approach & ethical considerations (max. 600 words): Outline the research methods and approaches you plan to use, explaining your reasoning. Address ethical aspects, including potential implications for participants, the environment, and broader societal contexts.
Impact & contributions (max. 800 words) Describe how your research will contribute to both knowledge production in the arts and concrete changes in professional, artistic, or creative practice. Highlight the expected outcomes and transformations.
Activity plan & teaching contribution (max. 600 words) Provide a broad timeline of planned activities for each year of your research trajectory. Include: An outline of your ideas for contributing to teaching, whether through self-organized workshops, seminars, or departmental activities.
Portfolio of work: A selection of 5–10 projects demonstrating creative range and your approach to research in or as practice.
Referees: Names of two academic and professional referees who can be directly contacted if necessary.
The proposal portfolios will be reviewed by a committee consisting of internal and external members and will be followed by an interview to discuss the proposal and possibilities for supervision. 1 applicant will be selected from this process to go forward to Stage 3
